Winter 2015 Youth Weekend

Greetings MQHYA Members,

We are preparing for our Annual Youth Weekend.  Last year it was cancelled due to lack of participation.  I am confident that we will host our Youth Weekend this year and plans are well underway.  We have selected Saturday & Sunday, February 21st & 22nd and will be going curling!

Yes, curling, don’t knock it until you try it!  It is a very physically demanding sport with great rewards.
And yes, I am speaking from experience (many moons ago!)

Rick Perron, Myrna Steeves husband, will be our celebrity host.  Rick has a very impressive curling resume, with over 40 years of experience and is with Program Development at Curl Moncton.
Rick’s accomplishments include:

  • ·         12 National Appearances (Men’s Briar and Mixed Competitions)
  • ·         1 Canadian Mixed Gold Medal
  • ·         1 Brier Silver Medal
  • ·         2 Brier 2nd All-Star Team Awards
  • ·         1 Time Winner Ford Hot Shots
  • ·         Competition Coach Course

As you can see, Rick is well versed in discipline and how to be successful.  And how to have fun too!!

Be sure to bring stretchy pants, warms sweaters, and clean sneakers!  This is going to be a great team building experience for everyone.

We are also currently sourcing hotels in the area, with the desire to be downtown close to restaurants and the outdoor skating rink.  So bring skates and a helmet, and a bathing suit too for the indoor pool at the hotel.

If you would like to attend, your 2015 MQHA & MQHYA Memberships must be active.  The cost will be
$35 per youth.  Please RSVP no later than Sunday, February 1st.  You can RSVP in the following manners:

We will also be discussing fundraising ideas for 2015, so be sure to bring your thinking caps too!
Stay tuned for additional details.  I know I am looking forward to a fantastic weekend filled with fun!!

Another thing to keep in mind for 2015 is the Equine Review, which is the first weekend in May in Sussex.  It will be here before we know it.  The Equine Review is a great way to start the 2015 show season.  You can get your shopping done, take in clinics and see and meet old and new friends.
The Equine Review is also a major fundraising weekend for the Youth Association.

As we look forward to 2015, let’s be sure to have a great year, filled with lots of fun!

See you soon!

Message from the MQHYA President

Hello Everyone,

Another fantastic show season has come to an end as well as a great year for our youth. But as one comes to an end another must begin, and hopefully even better than last year’s greatly successful year.  As usual we had our annual youth team tournament at the August Summer Sizzler show, which had twenty-three youth participants, which made four teams. Not only did we have youth participate in our local team tournament, but as well as at the All American Quarter Horse Congress. Three of our youth joined with the Quebec youth Association to form a team.  Overall, we placed 16th of 65 teams.

As for now, for a more upcoming event, the 2015 youth weekend will be held on February 21st and 22nd. We will spend the night at a hotel, but Saturday afternoon we will attend the Beausejour Curling Club with the attendance of Rick Perron, who is a Canadian mixed Gold medalist, along with many more accomplishments that he has achieved over his 40 year curling career. But there is one more thing to add… It’s a onesie party! But if you don’t have a pair of onesies we have some spares that can be borrowed.

As the 2014-2015 MQHYA President I would like to congratulate all those from our youth that had a successful Congress as well as show season, along with everyone else who showed at the Congress this year.  I hope to see many new and familiar faces in the 2015 show season as well as in our youth association. And lastly, don’t forget your onesies!

Sincerely,

Mikayla Jamieson
